A new skating rink has opened at the Port of Everett Marina, and we went to try it out so we could report back to you. (The hard things I do for you 😁) At Pacific Ice, guests will enjoy a truly unique experience of skating on real ice at a covered, open air rink overlooking the Port of Everett Marina. Holiday lights, music, firepits, and a handful of concessionaires will add to the whimsical atmosphere. Pacific Ice, presented by Tulalip Tribes, will run daily from November 27, 2021 through January 31, 2022 with open ice skating public sessions, skating lessons, birthday parties, and select special events to be announced soon. The rink will be located at the Port’s Pacific Rim Plaza in Fisherman’s Harbor, just in front of Hotel Indigo’s Jetty Bar & Grille and steps from the new Grand Avenue Park Bridge.
The first step to our ice skating fun was to make a reservation online. I tried to make the reservation for Saturday morning, but that was already all sold out, so I made it for Sunday morning instead. Reservations do tend to go quickly, so try to make your reservations as early as possible. Ticket prices are, Adult $15 + $1.50 Processing Fee Child $12 + $1.50 Processing Fee (Skate rentals included). Skating sessions are 45 minutes long, and once your tickets are purchased, they just need to be scanned at the ice rink.
Sunday morning, we bundled ourselves up and headed to the ice-skating rink. The rink is located just in front of Hotel Indigo’s Jetty Bar & Grille, so I put that into Google Maps and away we went. Finding the rink was pretty easy and parking was even easier. Visitor parking at Waterfront Place is free for the first two hours, thereafter, applicable parking rates apply as posted on the site. Parking directional signage will help you find visitor parking closest to the rink.
Once we got into the rink we were greeted, and tickets scanned. We were then asked for shoe sizes and given ice skates. My son needed a bigger size and that was no problem to get those switched out. They had a bunch of benches out for people to sit on while they go their skates on and then we just left our shoes under the benches for when we were done. The skates were new, easy to put on, and in great shape.
I do want to point out that the rink is cold. It does have a tent around it to keep out the rain, but it does not keep out the cold, and ice is cold, so be sure that the family wears lots of layers including gloves and hats while ice skating, or at least brings them. I did notice a lot of other skaters peeling off layers as they skated and got that body heat going. It is no fun trying to have family fun and just hearing complaining the whole time that someone is cold. They do also sell hot chocolate and other treats at the rink to warm up a little and just for more fun.
The rink itself is small, but since they only allow online reservations, it helps to keep the crowds low while you skate. Since we were total beginners, a small rink was a lot easier for us to handle, we also appreciated the railing all around the rink to hang onto or to catch us as we tried to channel our inner ice skater. As we were skating, they did have music to help with the ambiance. They had string lights up all around which led me to think that skating at night would be a magical experience.
Our morning of skating was a fun experience, and the 45-minute session was just the right amount of time. You can make a whole holiday outing of it by eating before or after at the many restaurants around the Port of Everett or in downtown Everett, check out some local light displays on your way down or way back or heading up to Everett Mall for a picture with Santa and some shopping.
