A Day at Boeing Future of Flight

Hands on STEM fun, incredible exhibits, and a behind the scenes look inside the Boeing factory

My son and I recently headed to Boeing Future of Flight in Mukilteo, and I honestly did not realize just how much there would be for kids to do there.

We planned our visit around the Boeing Everett Factory Tour, but Future of Flight ended up being a huge part of the experience. There are so many exhibits to explore, things to touch and try, and opportunities for kids to learn about aviation, space, engineering, and innovation.

If you have an older kid who loves figuring out how things work, building, STEM, airplanes, or space, you could easily spend hours here.

✈️ More Than Just Airplanes

One of the things I loved most was how much of the experience is hands on. Kids aren't just walking around looking at displays. There are opportunities to experiment, design, learn, and actually interact with what they're seeing.

🔬 So Much Hands On STEM Learning

There are exhibits throughout Future of Flight that encourage kids to experiment and think like engineers and innovators.

Kids can explore areas where they can design their own airplanes, learn about gravity, discover what it takes to grow food in space, and learn more about life aboard the International Space Station.

🚀 A Few Things to Explore

  • Learn about the International Space Station
  • Discover how food can be grown in space
  • Experiment with gravity
  • Create and design your own innovations
  • Try different interactive aviation and STEM exhibits
  • See a electric airplane and helicopter prototypes
  • Try the flight simulator if you're 12 or older

Homeschool Families, Put This One on Your List

As we were exploring, I kept thinking about what a great learning day this would be for homeschool families.

There is so much STEM learning naturally built into the experience. Aviation, engineering, physics, space, technology, design, manufacturing, and innovation are all right there for kids to see and experience. It would also make a fantastic field trip for schools, groups, and learning communities.

☀️ Don't Skip the Sky Deck

Make sure you head upstairs and out onto the Sky Deck while you're there. It's located on the roof and gives you a completely different view of the area and all of the aviation activity happening around you.

🍴 Make a Day of It

We had lunch at the cafe while we were there and, of course, had to check out the gift shop too.

Between the exhibits, hands on activities, Sky Deck, cafe, and gift shop, there is enough at Future of Flight itself to keep older kids entertained for hours.

And Then Comes the Boeing Everett Factory Tour

This was definitely a highlight of our day.

You board a shuttle at Future of Flight and head over to the Boeing Everett factory, where you get an incredible behind the scenes look at where airplanes are built.

Once inside, you head up to the observation deck and get to see the factory in action. It's one thing to talk to kids about how airplanes are made. It's completely different to stand there looking down at the enormous factory floor and actually see where it happens.

Along the way, you learn about Boeing's history, how airplanes are produced, and what the future of aviation may look like. The shuttle also takes you around the factory property, giving you another perspective on just how massive the entire operation really is.

My son and I both thought it was incredibly cool.
