Do you scream every time you walk into your bathroom? Do you hide stains with random countertop decor? Save the screams for the haunted house and try these quick, high-impact fixes to beautify and protect your home’s scariest surfaces.
Re-caulk Bathroom Tiles
Check tile joints in the bathroom and fill any gaps to stop water sneaking into walls or floors. Caulk comes in clear, tinted, and colored options so you can match your existing tile.
- Focus on corners, tub/shower seams, and vanity splash areas.
- Remove loose caulk first; apply in a steady bead, then smooth.
Replace Disappearing Grout
Grout doesn’t last forever. Replacing failing grout prevents leaks around showers and toilets. Want a mini-makeover? Try a different grout color for a fresh look.
Tip: Easy grout-cleaning paste
- Mix ½ cup baking soda + ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide + 1 tsp dish soap.
- Spread on grout; let sit 5–10 minutes.
- Scrub with an old toothbrush, then rinse.

Clean & Seal Granite Countertops
Use a neutral pH stone cleaner to lift grime, then apply a granite sealer to reduce staining and keep future messes from soaking in.
- Test a small, inconspicuous area first.
- Follow the sealer’s dwell time and buff to finish.
Check Exterior Caulking
Inspect caulk around doors, windows, and siding. After hot summers and cold winters, caulk can pull away or peel. Repairing gaps helps keep cold air out and warm air in.
- Look for cracks, gaps, or areas that feel drafty.
- Use exterior-rated caulk; check paintability if needed.
