Who is NorthLight Custom Builders?
NorthLight Custom Builders is a full-service design-to-build home remodeling company. We serve north King and south Snohomish counties including: Everett, Mukilteo, Edmonds, Shoreline, Kenmore, Bothell, Mill Creek, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, and Woodinville.
NorthLight’s services include: Kitchen/Bath remodels, Home additions and conversions, Whole home remodels, Outdoor living conversion/addition, and Aging-in-place conversions and additions, ADUs/DADUs.
What is different about NorthLight Custom Builders?
NorthLight is a design-to-build remodeling company. What this means for our clients is we fully manage their home remodeling project from the initial design to the finishing touches. As a general contractor, we will handle all the permitting, work with subcontractors, and our team is always on-site, so the homeowner does not need to be.
Owner Tony Collins has been in the construction industry for over 30 years in north Puget Sound. His mission for the company is to ensure integrity and provide our clients with exceptional, personalized service throughout the pre-construction and construction phases. “During my time as a contractor, I have learned, and continue to learn every day, about customer relationships, accurate estimating, employee relationships, subcontractor relationships, running and growing the business, new materials, and methods. Is being a licensed contractor enough?
It depends. If your home project is a simple renovation like changing countertops, flooring, and adding a backsplash; making sure the contractor you use is licensed may be enough for you.
If your project involves moving plumbing, wiring and potentially removing or adding walls; you are going to want a contractor who is not only licensed but who is also a certified specialist. Our team consists of experienced craftsmen who are Certified Project Managers, Certified Designers, Certified Aging-In-Place Specialists, Certified Universal Design Professionals, Certified Lead Remodelers, and many other accreditations. What this means is that you can rest assured that everyone you work with at NorthLight is experienced and well-educated in their field. They keep up with new methods and materials that will ensure your home lasts for years.
In 2022 we earned a place on the Building Industry Association of Washington’s list of Certified Builders; a short list of contractors throughout the State who excel in services, processes, and programs for employees and who are heads above the average contractor in the State.

What is your process?
NorthLight Custom Builders is a design to build home remodeling company. So our processes involve both the planning as well as construction phases.
When you first contact us, our Sales Team will set up an initial consultation to learn about you and your specific remodeling project. They will step you through our pre-construction planning phase and what the construction phase looks like. They will take a close look at the area of your home you want to remodel, discuss your specific needs, and learn about your vision. They will provide you with an initial Rough Estimate to be sure the work required fits within your planned budget.
If we are a good fit for each other, we will set up a Pre-Construction Agreement which encompasses the planning phase of construction. This is the most important phase because it is the foundation for a great construction phase. You will be introduced to our Design and Planning Team as well as the Project Manager who will oversee the construction phase. Here is where the fun begins! They will work with you on the layout and design of your new space. Then move into choosing all the fixtures and finishes you want and that fit within your budget. Our team will help you remain within your defined budget so you don’t have to worry about if you are straying outside that budget.
When completed, you will be presented with a Fixed Price Construction Agreement. Barring any unknown elements or homeowner-requested changes, this will be exactly what you pay for your project.
When the Construction Agreement is signed, you will be introduced to your Construction Team and we will get underway on building the schedule of events as construction begins. You will have full access to the construction schedule and be provided with weekly updates on what has happened, and what will be upcoming.
At the completion of your project, you will be walked through the completed space (our favorite part) to ensure everything is as you expected it to be. We will conduct a review with you so we can hear your feedback on how the process went from beginning to end. We will also set you up for a warranty visit in 10 months to tighten up any hinges and fix nail pops and caulk, along with any other warranty-related items. 
What if I have a small project?
Give us a call! We also have a Small Projects Team that works using a Time & Materials contract. These projects typically do not require drafting, design, and permitting. You will be assigned to a Project Manager and crew who will efficiently get the job done. They generally get scheduled and are completed quickly.
How will you keep me informed and communicate?
NorthLight employs a software platform called Buildertrend that provides an excellent online interface for the homeowner and Northlight to communicate and share information. Shared photographs, documents, and project schedules are all included and easily accessible.
How do you know your processes are working?
Repeat business and referrals are a large part of our business. Several of our customers have had us out to do additional projects after the original ones, and almost all of them have referred us to other people. We have had referral chains for as long as 7 customers! That tells us we are on the right track, however, there is always room for improvement which we are always working on.
