Mom-ME Time

How Body Back Changed My Life as a New Mom

By Erin Houg, owner of FIT4MOM Redmond/Kirkland/Woodinville - Sponsored Content July 21, 2016
When I got married in 2005, there was a saying “happy wife, happy life”. Newly married, I grasped this concept pretty early, as did my husband, with a little assistance. We lived in wedded bliss for five years when suddenly the happy, sane, rational wife became a mom. I went into motherhood with this notion of what I thought things would be like, how I would parent and how my kids would respond in the most outrageous situations. I knew that they wouldn’t act like that kid I saw in the store, or the one that was screaming and punching their mom. MY kids would never act like that. False. False. False. Welcome to reality, Erin.

While motherhood rocked my world, meaning the perfect world that I had formed in my head, I was spending a lot of quality time with a tiny dictator. My entire world now revolved around nine-pounds of baby fat. I couldn’t eat, sleep, use the bathroom or shower any time I wanted. I had to plan every move I made, based off one small humans last meal, poop or nap. It was eye opening. Now don’t get me wrong. My husband is the most supportive person I know and helped every step of the way! He would wake up at 2am with me so I could have sweet potato fries while I nursed (remember, happy wife, happy life). I also vaguely remember him making banana bread almost every day. What a nursing mom wanted, a nursing mom got. (Love you Brian!)

Fast-forward a couple of months. Roman and I had our rhythm; we were in our groove. I was starting to get the hang of things. We were at Stroller Strides almost every day but there were days where if I was touched one more time, I was going to combust. I had been handled, touched, poked, stepped on, used as a jungle gym so many times that daily I had given up defeat and I laid on the floor at the bottom of a pig pile. That is where I found myself when Roman was about six months. He was an early crawler and walker and I was ready to tap out. Bring in a stand in mom for just twenty seconds so I could pee in peace!

Stage right enters Body Back. I didn’t know much about Body Back other than unlike Stroller Strides where Roman was with me for my workout, Body Back was for women only, no kids. BONUS! I knew the workouts were intense and that it would require leaving my sweet, tiny dictator at home with his dad. It took me all of two seconds to sign up for a session. I wanted it that time, but more than wanted it, I needed it. I was so busy taking care of my family, the house, our dog, and I wasn’t taking care of me. If I didn’t take care of myself, how could I possibly take care of my family?

I can tell you that Body Back was my life preserver. It rescued me from completely losing myself to rediscovering who I am as a woman, a wife and a mom. Women join Body Back and see amazing results in weight loss, muscle toning and they lose inches in the process. I followed the easy plan and had amazing results. But my greatest gain in the eight weeks was that I found me. I rediscovered someone that had been slightly lost in motherhood. I rediscovered someone that could tolerate life, the ups and downs, with a positivity that carried me through my long days. I rediscovered a stronger me, physically but mostly mentally.

Body Back
is an amazing program that is for women only. It is a transformational program that leads women down an eight-week journey to finding themselves. Body Back is not a magic pill; there are no shakes, diets or wraps. It is about eating whole and healthy foods, great workouts, connecting with a community of women that are going through the same things you are. Womanhood! In the meantime you learn how to fuel your body with food, how to cope with life and not turn to food when stressed and how to change your thought patterns, how to make yourself as a priority and not let yourself slip backwards. Body Back gave me all of that. I joined thinking it would be an amazing workout and I walked out with a new found confidence, strength and love for motherhood. In the process, I found my Mom-ME Time. I found two hours a week to work on me, inside and out, and to be all by myself. Body Back has changed my life. Now almost five years later, I am STILL a Body Back client and I am also a Body Back coach! There is nothing better than a woman who comes to me, ready for change, ready for a moment to herself, and watching her give it everything she has. The greatest reward is seeing her face when I show her the change and progress that she made in eight weeks. Body Back changed my life and now I have the privilege of walking others down that journey and seeing their lives changed.
