For the fifth year, artists ages 18 and under are invited to exhibit their work at the Young Artists Exhibition in Kirkland Summerfest. The Young Artists Exhibition is a two-day art show that takes place August 12th (1 - 8pm) and 13th (11-7pm) during the city-wide Kirkland Summerfest celebration held at Kirkland Marina Park. Summerfest is Kirkland's largest festival of art, music, food and fun, featuring two days of music, art, and family on the waterfront and downtown. The festival features leading artists and musicians from the Puget Sound and beyond, as well as art activities for families.
The 2016 Young Artists Exhibition is co-presented by Kirkland Arts Center (KAC) and Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission (KCAC). Their goal is to feature the talent and individual expression of young artists in the area, nurturing in them a love of art at a young age. KAC and KCAC are excited to see the inspirational and creative artwork by young artists as they take part in this community-wide celebration. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience the excitement of seeing their work on display for others to enjoy.
All entries will be displayed in the exhibit, and every artist receives a participation ribbon for contributing to the show. In addition to the participation ribbon, prizes will be awarded to different age groups: 5 and under, 6-9, 10-13, and 14-18. Artwork will be judged on interpretation of the theme, originality, creativity, and innovative use of materials. This year’s theme is “My favorite place in the Pacific Northwest.”
Submissions are now open and entries can be delivered to Kirkland Arts Center’s Gallery from June 30th to August 1st during open hours (Tues.-Fri. 11-6, Sat. 11-5). Every artist is allowed to submit up to two entries. All the artwork will be available for pick up following the conclusion of Summerfest through August 19th.
