Once a year the folks at Molbaks hire professional actors to stage a play, and this year it's the classic tale of the gullible emperor who pretends his invisible duds are real for fear of looking stupid. Please consider donating new or gently-used coats, mittens, socks, pj’s and other warm weather clothes and we’ll put them to good use this winter keeping local homeless teens warm and dry, with the help of our beneficiary Friends Of Youth.  Runs Friday and Saturday through the 24th.

Columbus Day Spyglasses

Whether they are on The Nina, The Pinta or The Santa Maria, your little ones will have a great time creating and playing make believe with their very own handmade spyglass! 

 

·  Paper tube (paper towel or gift wrap)

National Fire Prevention Week

Funny Fruit

  1. Melt white chocolate in a double boiler. Leave half untinted. To remainder, add 3 drops orange and 1 drop yellow gel-paste food coloring.
  2. Dip Seckel pears in untinted chocolate and Lady apples in orange chocolate. Refrigerate on a parchment-lined baking sheet until set, 20 minutes.
  3. Microwave semisweet chocolate at 50 percent power, stirring, until melted but not hot.
  4. Transfer to a plastic bag, and snip off corner.
  5. Draw faces onto white-chocolate-dipped fruit; refrigerate until set, 10 minutes.

The treats are best eaten the day they're made.


Counting Stars


Great World Wide Star Count

October 9th-23rd join thousands of other students, families, and citizen scientists counting stars in 2009 for the Great World Wide Star Count!  This international event encourages everyone to go outside, look skywards after dark, count the stars they see in certain constellations, and report what they see on-line.  This window to the Universe Citizen Science Campaign is designed to encourage learning astronomy.  For more information and to learn how to start counting, visit www.windows.ucar.edu/starcount.
